The Story Behind ACCENDA

The remote control design team at Innotech Systems pioneered a new remote control "category" with the development of the first reliable, user friendly, and affordable voice operated remote control in 1999.Enormously successful, the remote control was featured on such television programs as the "Can you Believe It" product information series (broadcast on CBS News affiliates around the nation), on "Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser," and others.

As soon as the remote control, sold under the name , reached retailers, Innotech began receiving calls from blind and visually impaired consumers, consumers with other physical disabilities, and physical therapists.

While the hands-free voice operation of the Remote Control went a long way toward solving the needs of these consumers, the Innotech design team quickly recognized that the market needed a remote control that was specifically designed to address the needs of the elderly, visually impaired and the physically handicapped.

In addition to drawing on their own experience and studies of the marketplace, Innotech enlisted the services of AZtech, a private, non-profit agency operated by and for persons with disabilities. Experts in the field of assistive technology, AZtech specializes in helping to bring innovative products to market for people who are visually and physically challenged.

Together with AZtech, Innotech hosted targeted focus groups and conducted in-depth market research to better understand the problems elderly, visually impaired, and physically handicapped consumers had in using conventional universal remote controls.

As they conducted their research, Innotech soon recognized that most consumers --- not just those with impairments — are not happy with the operation of universal remote controls, which are usually designed to be attractive, feature rich, glitzy, but not necessarily user-friendly.

The result was ACCENDA, a revolutionary remote control that finally makes using a remote control as easy as it should be — for everybody.

Some of the unique features incorporated in the ACCENDA remote control are:
  • Hands-free voice or hand-held push-button operation
  • Sculpted buttons make it easy to find the right button just by touch
  • Voice prompts to talk users through set-up & operation.
  • Voice Memo recorder — no more fumbling for pen and paper!
  • Flip-down keypad to hide infrequently used keys
  • Smart Source, which eliminates the usual need to push the TV, VCR, Cable/Satellite button etc.
  • Menu Key Lockout to prevent the accidental operation of menu and setup keys
The ACCENDA remote control is the first of a series of voice controlled and voice-feedback products from Innotech Systems designed to solve the needs of all consumers.
